Artist Statement.

My name is Dunc Ebedes, and I've embarked on an exhilarating journey from musician to visual artist, I'm here to share my story with you.

For most of my life, I lived and breathed music, strumming chords on my guitar and teaching others the beauty of melody. But as the years passed, I found myself increasingly disenchanted with the confines of the medium. Music, once my passion, had become a source of frustration and creative restraint.

​

In 2022, I made a bold decision to leave music behind and explore new horizons. One fateful night in 2023, I borrowed my wife's paints and brushes, and from that moment on, I was captivated.

​

With over 100 paintings under my belt and no signs of slowing down, I've discovered a newfound sense of liberation in the world of art. Eschewing traditional techniques, I find inspiration in the every day, using kitchen and bathroom utensils and anything I can find, to apply paint to canvas.

​

For me, art is not about perfection or mastery—it's about storytelling. I embrace the chaos, deliberately painting myself into corners just to find a way out. It's a cathartic struggle, a journey of self-discovery with each brushstroke.

Despite my unconventional approach, my work has found a home in the hearts of private collectors. From my humble studio in the Eastern Cape of South Africa, I also dream of reaching new horizons and sharing my art with a global audience in the coming years.
